Zusammenfassung (übersetzt):
This paper analyzes the history of international insertion of Brazil's defense industry and the role the foreign market has played for this industry. It is shown that for a country like Brazil, where the demands for military equipment is relatively low, exports play an essential role to maintain a viable defense industry, i.e., which can be able to produce items with not so high unitary costs and to remain sustainable in the long term without receiving subsidies from the State. Such an analysis can be useful when the revitalization of the defense industry in Brazil is a more and more concrete process, so the actors who somehow are involved in the process of revitalization - or who may be affected by it - can have more information to make any necessary decisions in this area.
