Abstract:
Abstract (Translated):
Right after publication, the Apostolic Exhortation „Evangelii Gaudium“ was classified as anti-capitalistic, as if Pope Francis were hostile to markets. This interpretation is wrong. The source for this misunderstanding is that Pope Francis formulates his pastoral message in a language rich in imagery. He uses metaphors derived from individual ethics to describe problems of institutional ethics. This evokes the wrong impression of an anti-modernistic and anti-market tendency, which is clearly not an accurate characterization of the direction this Apostolic Exhortation is aiming at.
