Zusammenfassung (übersetzt):
This Discussion Paper presents an overview of the granting of transportation assistance to Brazilian working heads of families based on data from the IBGE 2018-2019 Family Budget Survey. It was shown that people from the lowest social strata, with less education and income, are precisely those who receive less transportation assistance. On the other hand, it was observed that the main transport assistance policy in Brazil, the transport voucher policy (vale-transporte), is quite important for low-income workers, as it increases their territorial reach and consequently their employment possibilities, in addition to improving family mobility and spending conditions. The challenge is to expand the vale-transporte policy, that only affects formal workers, to the unemployed and informal workers. The article at the end recommends the adoption of public policies complementary to transport vouchers policy (vale-transporte) to expand this important social benefit.
