Zusammenfassung (übersetzt):
This study aims to analyze the evolution and characteristics of overeducation in Brazil between 2012 and 2023 using data from the Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua (PNADC). Overeducated workers are those who perform jobs that require less than their level of education, according to the Brazilian Classification of Occupations (Brasil, 2010). In addition, we seek to contribute to understanding the movements of overeducation in the labor market by investigating the extent to which the long recessionary economic cycle experienced since the end of 2014 has affected the strong growth in overeducation observed, building a panel of geographic strata in the PNADC, and using different ways of capturing the economic cycle in the labor market. Between 2012 and 2020, the proportion of over-educated workers rose from 26% to 38%, we show a significant impact of the cycle on over-education, although this rise seems to be more associated with the occupational structure of the economy, such as sectoral distribution and the level of informality.
