| en |

dc.description.abstracttrans | The recent development in information and communications technology (ICT) has created totally new lines of business, and on the other hand also forced more traditional businesses to change their operations. Increasing utilization of ICT has, furthermore, contributed to networking between companies, and increased the cooperation between interest groups and the industry. Indeed, the socio-economic transformation resulting from ICT related innovation has been dramatic enough so that researchers and the media have begun to use the term “New Economy”. The present paper illustrates the dynamics of this ICT transformation and the changes in Finnish companies’ operations through case companies. The four selected companies operate in different industries, the common element being ICT-driven or enabled change in their operations. The cases clearly support the view of ICT as a generic technology. In other words, the ICT core innovations, like digitalization, drive new technological innovation at an increasing pace. At the same time these innovations result in new technological and social applications in companies of both new and old economy alike. | en |
